Here are some exercises you can work on at home with your Grade 3 student.
Below Mastery
With your student, fold two sheets of paper into 8 equal sections, color a different pattern of 3 sections on each sheet, then describe the colored part as 3/8 of the whole for both sheets.
At or Near Mastery
With your student, fold one sheet of paper into 8 equal parts and another into 16 equal parts. Color 3 parts on the first sheet and 6 parts on the second sheet, then discuss why 3/8 = 6/16.
Above Mastery
With your student, fold one sheet of paper into 8 equal parts and another into 16 equal parts. Color 7 parts on each sheet and have your student explain why 7/8 is greater than 7/16.
