Here are some exercises you can work on at home with your Grade 3 student.
Below Mastery
With your student, find fraction models online, and use them to compare fractions. Ask your student to show you how determine the fractions the models represent.
At or Near Mastery
With your student, use models to compare equivalent fractions. For example, make one model using 8 squares and another the same size using 4 rectangles. Use them to show 2/8 = 1/4 and 4/8 = 1/2.
Above Mastery
With your student, ask questions to test predictions about operations with numbers. For example: What happens when you add 2 odd numbers or even numbers? Why do you think this happens?
