Here are some exercises you can work on at home with your Grade 4 student.
Below Mastery
With your student, divide objects into groups of equal amounts. Note that some numbers (composite) can divided many ways, while other numbers (prime) can only be divided by 1 and themselves.
At or Near Mastery
With your student, create and solve multi-step word problems. For example, Anita had $26, she spent $8, then loaned half of her remaining money to her brother; how much money does she have left? [1/2 (26 – 8) = 9]
Above Mastery
With your student, estimate answers to word problems by rounding. Discuss what level of rounding is appropriate (for example, to the nearest dollar or nearest 10 dollars).
