Here are some exercises you can work on at home with your Grade 5 student.

Below Mastery

With your student, find fraction models online to describe results for multiplying a whole number by a fraction; for example, multiply 3 by 3/4 by using 3 fraction models of 3/4.

At or Near Mastery

With your student, use pictures to talk about fractions; for example, draw 8 flowers. Discuss that if the flowers are 2/3 of the set of flowers, then the entire set must have 12 flowers.

Above Mastery

With your student, create and solve addition and subtraction problems involving fractions with different denominators. Discuss different methods for finding a common denominator.
