With you student, identify real-life examples of linear relationships such as the cost of buying cheese at $5.99 a pound. Explore how it looks on a graph and relate it to the equation y = 5.99x.
At or Near Mastery
With your student, use linear equations to interpret data in a real-world context, for example, determine how the pay of an hourly worker changes once the worker starts earning overtime.
Above Mastery
With your student, discuss the qualitative properties of the graph of a car’s speed over time. Describe the graph of a ball’s height when thrown to your student and have him sketch it.
